Help! Teenager room remodeling with a "beach" theme" What color paint and any suggestions in the room?
Question:My daughter is 14 and going into high school, so we want a cute room without being too juvenille. She has a silver antique bed frame with a new plaid green/pink and a touch of blue comforter. We bought a new white desk/hutch and dresser with glass pulls that have a touch of pink/silver. She wants it to have a beach feel without being gaudy or cluttery (trust me it will get there on its own). She has a metal pink/blue green sign from pottery barn "2 miles to the beach"sign for above the bed. Does anyone have paint suggestions for the walls? She has a great blueish color that could stay, but we have to paint over dancers regardless. We've thought light green or pink. What color bed-skirt/window seat cushion? Any other fun ideas? Thanks!

for colors, i think you should use cool colors like mostly blues, light greens, etc.
my friend did something like this, she made the walls a light blue with a light green ceiling. i thought it was so neat! and then she put a beachball and some small nifty beach decoratives you can get at party city around the room. it was quite cool, and im a guy haha. also you can try to maybe you can get a paint artist to paint a palm tree or a beach with sand on the wall. that would be cool, but may cost alot. if you can't do that then try to buy some more paint and you can paint it on. good luck, i hope everything turns out the way your daughter wanted it too.
i think you should paint the walls sea green and sponge light pink all over it. the ceiling should be the reverse it'll be so sandybeachy...
I would stick with a shade of blue... something on the line of aqua. I would look for a rug that is in the shape of a sea shell and buy a net to hang on the wall and attach sea shells to it. If there is a Pier One Imports near you CHECK THAT STORE for ideas! You may even be able to purchase or make a life-guards chair and hang a round flotation device from it :) as far as the window seat & curtains... I think the comforter, windows and seat cushion should all match. If there's a Bed, Bath & Beyond near you they will have cute stock ideas too. BEST OF LUCK with the teen years (you're going to need the luck!)
I would have the walls light blue and ceiling too. then Sponge clouds on the ceiling. About 2 foot above the baseboard... and you can only do this on one wall if it seems too much... is get a can of the textured spray paint... sand color and paint it on the bottom- you don't have to be careful about the outline- make it curvy like the seashore. Make sure you protect your carpeting, etc. Then get some fun beach stuff and 'lay it in the sand' with double adhesive tape. a great site for party stuff- especially with a beach or luah theme is www.orientaltrading.com another cute idea would to be to take a beach umbrella - plain or the kind with the thatching on it and put it behind the headboard kinda like a canopy! they even have some pretty neat towels you can put up for 'art! have fun! I also like the netting idea!
p.s.- if the umbrella won't fit for a canopy- try a little table with the umbrella as a 'desk'. also you can hang a light (chandalier type) in a corner and get a 'sun windsock'.. to put in it or behind it so she can have 'sunshine' whenever she wants! make sure the bulb isn't too high of wattage.
I did "beach" in a bathroom and it is cute
pink paint, very pale
I got flip flop rugs at Bed BAth and Beyond
used sea shell pictures and jars of shells and fake tropical flowers and flamingo stuff and a beach hat hung on a peg
attach cheap, colorful flip flops to the wall(like footprints) and use to display photos like a bulletin board or just glue flipflops to frame of a big bulletin board
do the bedskirt and seat cushion in white...love those photos of the beach with families in white...just kinda glows and looks so clean and fresh(I used white curtains and shower curtain in the bathroom)
have fun...this is a fun theme to do
I did a mural on my daughters wall, (I am not an artist) beach theme, It was so fun and easy. We painted 2 palm trees, light blue skies with sun and few clouds, then a layer of darker blue as the ocean with stenciled fish and sea life, and also there was a layer of sand (tan color paint) with actual sand mixed in the paint for texture
i would stick with a few shades of blue, like sky blue, navy blue & turquoise. white & silver can be used for the main pieces in the room (wood color for bed, chest of drawers...), adding navy blue in a light colored place (like the walls) in the form of shelves or a paining / photo, can also create a nice theme wall. small amounts of pink & yellow can be used to "break" the blue & give it a fresh & energetic room. good luck.

You might want to try some small patterns rather than apply a lot of paint to the walls. You should be able to find some cute shells and star fish etc..
