Tan is a neutral so really, almost anything will look good. I'd go for a neutral carpet and then a really bold color for the walls, like dark green or crimson.

Maybe a darker carpet. An area rug would bring it out also. Tan and orange is a good combination. Wall colors would be like a mauve or a cross between green and tan.

in my opinion a kashmiri carved mutli-colored carpet and a pink-white mixture full of waves would look nice.

invest in large paint chips (18"x18") they are like 4 dollars each but they give you a good sense of color on an expanse. (if you dont want to spend on chips use a solid bath towel or solid fabric because color truly needs to be seen on an expanse.) looking at those little free chips can be deceiving and costly and aggravating. remember nowadays stores like Lowe's offer color matching with a scanner gun and a paint computer. you just have to bring in your sample, the larger the better
