Outdated shelf?
Question:I have spent forever making my room perfect. It is bright, colorful, and I have alot of really neat interesting things. But, there is still one part of my room that I don't know what to do about.
On one wall I have a shelf that stretches all the way across it. It is about a foot from the ceiling.
It has stuff from when I was little, like birdhouses I painted and ancient little trophies and other weird little babyish knick-knacks.
I really need to update it, but don't know what to put up there. If you have ANY IDEAS please HELP!
Thanks SO much!
Answers:
Buy a couple of Bose 301 bookshelf speakers and put them up there , you'll be glad you did...
books & plants, either real or fake, would give it a library feel.
Get a hot glue gun, piece of lace the length of the shelf and attach to the edge.. or get some contact paper in a long strip.. stick it together and attach with thumbtacks. Or you could paint with some acrylic latex you get at the hobby store and just retouch the edge so it looks different.
Don't get rid of your stuff. Any of the things that hold memories keep them just find a new way to organize the shelf.
It depends on your decor. I have Country Style so I bought a bunch of old tin containers with the product logo's on them. Found them at thrift stores for low prices. Anything that shows your interests would be appropriat.
What Style do you have going?
IN THAT CASE, you could put up some lights (white Christmas tree lights) to bring more focus to that area, staple them to the back , along the corner, THEN YOU COULD FIND LIKE A FEATHER BOA along the edge (attach with glue gun) instead of lace, that will look hip and modern. Paint the back w/ polka dots or add some color to the back part of the wall. The lighting will give you a mood, rearrange all your treasures!! You are set!!
Here's a really crazy thought. Empty it off, paint it a dark color that works well with your room and leave it as nothing more than a horizontal accent in the room until you find a real purpose for it. Just because it's there doesn't mean it has to be full. Simplicity is sometimes classy and exciting all by itself.
something like this.
-paint the shelf(if possible)
-put handmade bowls(ceramic pottery)
-start collecting scented candles
-incense stands
-plain crystal vase(fill it w/ your favorite rocks or stone)(or white sand)
-Prop up some of your favorite cd's
-ooh i love square candles
-fill it up with anything that's handmade.
Remember: when ur decorating shelves. You dont need to fill it to the brim. Always have a focal point on each level/shelf.
step back. look at the entire things and just try to fit in things according to balance.
