Has anybody ever heard of painting the rough side of clapboard?

Question:I am painting an old white house with many layers of paint and rusty nail heads. Is it fesible to turn the clapboards over, prime, and paint?

Answers:
if you are going to go to all the trouble to remove the boards, why not replace with new? it seems like they would look a lot better when the job was done.

Yeah..I think...sounds like a good idea...but then again ,I'm no professional
