In a shower, should the seams of Duraboard be taped, and what if your contractor didn't tape them?

Question:A friend pointed this out to me in the middle of this project at my house, and the tile is not up yet. Should I insist on the taping? Is it that important?

Answers:
I would tape the corners with the mesh tape. It seems like the corners are where it cracks. They probably wont want to do it for you but so what. If its what you want, tell them. Its not that much trouble. Get the tape yourself, so then they are more likely not to get upset with you. Heaven forbid you want a long lasting tiled shower job. Just ask if they would do it for your own peace of mind. They are being paid well. So I dont think its that much to ask.

My husband is a contractor and told me that it is not all that important to do this because they will use some type of plaster to seal it up before the tiles are put in place. Good luck and that is so smart that you are making sure this is done properly because there are so many bad construction workers that take advantage these days.
there is absolutely no reason to have to tape seal the joint cause ther is a jointing strip which is shaped in a "I"(capitol "i" shape) which acts as a seal not allowing any seaping of water from the face to the rear of the water proof board.Cheapest and most effective method due to its easy application. Its also visually appealing.
