You are going to love this-- go to a Laz-y-boy store. All there furniture comes in pieces that easily come apart to move upstairs. I have moved my last sectional through my second story window--No more--I love Laz-y boy--Great quality too! http://www.lazboy.com/
I just bought sofas from DFS and had nightmares about them not fitting through my narrow doorway. In the event, the guys who delivered them took them apart. They're used to getting them in small spaces and gaps. They said that most modern sofas are designed to come apart for delivery. They removed the backs in the street and they fitted in perfectly!
