How much does it cost to have lead paint removed from your home?

Question:

Answers:
You're silly to have someone come in and remove it all. The cost is astronomical compared to the alternative.

Put masking tape over all your current eye-level and lower mouldings and trims. Cut the paint around them with a utility knife, then just remove them and put them in a garbage bag. Seal with duct tape and dispose of them properly. Then replace the mouldings and trims with new wood and refinish however you'd like. The cost for new wood is considerably less than the cost of stripping and abating.

As for your walls, just know that once you reprime and paint with latex or acrylic, you've sealed in the old lead alkyd paint and it's perfectly safe.

I've rehabbed several houses in my life and this is how the health departments in both Illinois and Michigan prefer it be handled.
