Bamboo flooring is great because it looks nice and they can regrow enough to do a 5,000 sqft. house in like 3 months!! Way better for the environment than hardwoods or other rainforest woods. My sister did her whole first floor in bamboo and she got her's at Ikea. It looks great and she said it only cost like $1.80-ish per sqft.!
Check out cork flooring. Cork can be harvested without destroying the tree. Most reasonable prices I found was on-line. Do a search on "Cork Flooring".
