How can I decorate my room on a budget? [READ DETAILS]?

Question:I have a tight budget, but I'd love to decorate my room and make it more personal and cosy.
It's quite large with white walls and ceiling, and dark terracotta-coloured ceramic tiles.
It looks very impersonal.
I can't change the tiles... but I do like rugs.
The walls are pretty much blank except for one or two picture frames.
In my room, I have a double bed with no bed head, small side table, dresser, small unused desk, 3 wicker drawer set, and a huge blank white wood closet in the corner.
I'm a teenager so I want to turn it into my "retreat" where I can really live.
Painting the walls isn't out of the picture...

Creative and very detailed answers will get the 10 points.

Thanks! :)

Wow! You should embrace the Terra Cotta tiles! You're so lucky to have them. It gives you a good place to start, instead on entirely blank canvas. And a low budget bedroom is easy to work with, here are a few suggestions...

OK. So the easiest and cheapest way to get an instant room make over is add a coat of paint. With the tiles on the floor you can go a couple of different ways.
My favorite color is a muted terra cotta color but since you already have that on the floor a beautiful accent to that would be a watery blue. It's calming, retreat/resort-like and very in right now.
I love these shades (All Sherwin Williams colors that you can find online and match to any brand you like):
Cay (SW 6772)
Liquid Blue (SW 6779)

A light buttery yellow could also be lovely. It would be warm and compliment the beautiful floor tiles.
Some suggestions:
Butter Up (SW 6681)
Friendly Yellow (SW6680)

My next suggestion would be to rearrange your room. It costs you nothing but can completely change the feeling of the room. Loo through magazines for set ups you like. Do something unusual, you can always move your furniture around again. Try something for a few days, then move everything again. Your bound to find a floorplan that feels right.

Another way to change the look of a room is to reorganize. Put away all the clutter on your dresser or night stand, make an effort to not leave your clothes in a pile. A room that is less cluttered and clean instantly looks more like a bedroom in a decor magazine. Simplify your room accessories. Less is more. Adding a few key accessories mey change the tone of a room. Plants are a great wat to add life and color to a room. Or go to a thrift store and find some beautiful antique dishes and picture frames to make into a little motif above your bed.

There are so many things you can do to make your room your own without spending a lot of money. Have fun and embrace what you have. Good luck!

seems really large-

paint ur wall, behind ur bed with favourite color- leave the rest with white ...
fit bedcover with contrast color of the wall background-
arrange ur pictures as ur headrest - in eyes point view height.
add more picture of urself-

get 2/3 drawer set (i'm not sure what u mean with wicker-i hope its low) in a row .. place books or just place mat & flower on top of it, or even ur stereo / TV maybe?

get rugs- to match the terracota color, around the bed- for u & friends to hang out together. place the side table in front of ur bed-- match with the rug.

huge white closet + dresser together on other side of the room. fill them up with ur clothes or just your stuff.

hanging lamp or standing lamp also work for the ambience & looks ... get easy one from IKEA-
big picture behind the bed also work- if u like to have more life, instead of calm ...

have a good try ..
I am not sure where you are but, you should try garage sales, thrift stores or flea markets. They have so many cool things there. Very unique and different. You can also hit up the dollar store. One of my favorite things in my room is my quote wall. I bought some small frames painted them and hand wrote a bunch of my favorite quotes on construction paper and framed um. Every time someone new comes over...they are drawn to that wall and wanna read them all...lol! You can also get creative and take all your furniture outside and spray paint it. Check out home depot. They have a spray paint section for all different textures and techniques. Also if your mom has a sewing machine... go to a fabric store or Walmart. Walmart has super cheap fabric. LIke .50cents to a dollar a yard. You can get sheer fabric and sew some beads on. You can drape your windows or make cute throw pillows. It might all seem like alot of work. Seriously though for me it's fun and it's how I show my creativity. As far as the wall color I think lilac purple would look awesome against the terra cotta floors. As far as a headboard...measure your bed width wise... get some plywood cut for you at home depot and some heavy batting at a craft/fabric store and fabric that matches your blanket. Just cover with the batting and fabric and staple. You can also add buttons or beads. Then have someone help you screw the new headboard on! oh and I think a comfy circular rug would be a good idea too! Have fun and be as creative as possible. Keep your eyes open for cool stuff! Good luck hun!
Use color and lots of it! Work with those tiles for a great southwest spa or an exotic Indian feel with what I call the "sunset range" of colors in paints, throw pillows and blankets.

Go to a fabric store and look for remnants on sale, drape them over your bed or dresser or hang them from a wall.

Go to a flea market or tag sales for neat decorative pieces.

Consider a direct sales company where you can purchase items and get free credits to use towards other items. Or try discount stores like Home Goods.

Add small pieces that mean something special to you- this will truly make you feel happy!

Have fun with it!

They sell all types of new furnishings, especially rugs, really cheap. You can warm the room up with a rug on the floor, and on the wall behind your bed for some color.

Plants or topiaries, either real or artificial, will really liven the space up, too.
