I'm very interested in purchasing stones for my garden, but would like to know if a ton is more than a yard.
Question:Some said its the same - others say a yard is more than a ton, need a reply ASAP, thank you
Answers:
It depends on the kind of stone you are buying. A ton of pumice is going to be more than a yard, for example. Also, it depends on whether or not you are buying crushed stone. It makes sense to sell crushed stone by the yard, but stone pavers (like flagstone, or bluestone, etc) by the ton. Crushed stone is scooped up in a bucket loader. Pavers are loaded on a pallet.
The stone center should be able to give you an idea of how many square feet a pallet of a given type of stone will cover. Crushed stone, being sold by the yard, is more straight forward.
So, figure out how much you need - either square foot coverage for pavers or cubic yard for crushed stone. If they only sell by the ton, then that's ok. They'll load their truck with a yard of crushed stone, or a pallet of pavers or how ever much you need, weigh it and that's what you'll pay.
a ton isn't much and you didn't state your garden size.when they said a yard thats a qubic yard 3 feet wide 3 feet high and 3 feet deep like a big square go with 2 tons it's better to be over then under then they will not deliver it
Ask the place you are buying the stone from.
