How do I tell if my carpet is nylon or polyester?

Question:I just had carpet installed and had selected a nylon carpet. After checking the sample that I got when I paid for the carpet with what was actually laid, I noticed that they are two different carpets. I'm wondering if they sold me a nylon but installed a polyester. How can I distinguish between the two?

well a nylon is thinner and has an elastic-like feel to it...polyester, however, is like your average carpet. it feels more like cotton. hope this helps good luck!
