What do I do with two yards of 40 year old decorator grade silk?
Question:Its in great condition from hong kong. I've had it dry cleaned , My daughters doing her room in an oriental theme and would like to make throw pillows. I'm sure theres something more adventurous that can be done with it than just pillows. Dose anyone have any good ideas ?!
Answers:
I have some stamped with the traditional red "made in occupied Japan" that I inherited and here are some of the things I've done with it. Made placemats, napkins and table runners embellished with gimp and lace at the edges. Made picture frames that were upholstered with the silk and embellished with silk flower roses. I even made a throw edged with fringe. Used it to make scarfs (it can be dyed using silk dye and resist in a variety of patterns and colors). Used it on the back of dining room chairs as a chair snuggy for a reception. Used it swagged in between a decorative wrought iron architectural piece mounted to the ceiling as a room divider. Used it to make drapery valances. I still have a lot left, so e-mail me if you come up with new ideas!

You could make some valances for her windows.
You could make a room screen and install the fabric into it.
You could make your daughter a shift (sleeveless dress).
Make a standing, triptych screen from it.
Or swag it to make a coronet over the head of her bed.
