What are those European blinds that roll up and down called?

Question:The name starts with an R. You control them with a switch on the wall and they go up and down, they're like blinds but they're on the outside of the house and when they're closed they completely blackout the room. No, they're not called shutters. They have a name. You don't really see them on average American houses. Please help.

Answers:
Are you talking about Roll down shutters? These are shutters installed outside above the windows and can be lowered with a push of a button. This completely seals the window off.

These windows are used in hurricane areas mostly. You may find them in areas of high crime. They protect your house by keeping intruders from getting in your house through a window.

Hope that helps.

All I can think of is Roman Shades. But those are for the inside of the windows.
Roman Blinds
In Italy we had those shades and they were called persianas
