It will be interesting to see if all of that actually fits. Did you do your measuring? We lived in a 999 sq fit apartment and we could never fit that much stuff in there. Just a thought. I would say $1000 to start out with would be good. I think that is plenty of furniture. You should be thinking about saving for food, a couple of nice pots and pans to cook with, stuff for the kitchen, little things for the bathroom like towels, washcloths, necessities. These are the things that really add up overtime.
$4000
You should have at least $1000.00 for emergencies. I would suggest saving up the equivalent of one to two months wages.
First and foremost, make sure your bathroom has all the necessities like towels and a shower curtain. The first time I moved, I forgot to purchase bath towels, but didn't realize it until after I got out of the shower! Kitchen towels - not so good to dry off with :)
Then, my best suggestion is wait until you move to purchase any more big, costly items. It's the little stuff - like vacuums, brooms, mops, laundry detergent, household cleaners, and deposits on other things (utilities, cable, water) - that will kill your pocketbook.
Honestly, save up as much as you can because when you get in your going to realize you want and need A LOT of things. I would get most of the stuff after you move in so you only have to move it once. There are a lot of other little things you need like everything for the kitchen.
Best thing to do is get in there and see what you need by living there, and start saving every dime now because the general rule of thumb, you need 2 to 3 times what you think you'll need.
