Does anyone know of a good product to refinish both the inside and outside of my cast irion, clawfoot tub?
Question:The inside is in great condition: a few hairline scratches.
The edge is in decent condtion: 3 chips in the porcelain, only one of which goes down to the metal.
The outside is painted black but it's wearing off.
Answers:
yeah i agree with bob up there. but if you have your heart set on refinishing look thru your yellow pages you canprobably have it professionally refinished for about 400.00. There are also a few decent products on the market for D I Y. check out home depot or lowes. I just uses a roll on epoxy called Klenks, have had good results.
I would be careful and consider the refinish on your tub just yet. You mentioned "clawfoot", I assume that it is old then. If so I would have someone that is familiar with the value of these tubs check it as is. The value of an item is sometimes bosted by the idea that less is more. The less you try to fix it the more it's value.
It sounds to me that you have a tub that is in good original condition and should be appraised before you do anything to it. The place to look for value, online of course, libraries, museums, do your own reasearch 1st to determine if there is any value in it as is. If not the contact a reputable plumber or interior designer for advise or refinishing.
Hope this helps
