Color/Material for kitchen floor to make room look bigger or brighter?
Question:Want to redo kitchen to include floors...what is the best flooring to make the space look bigger? Lighter vs darker? or best material?
thanks for your insight
Answers:
High gloss tiles in a light/neutral will reflect light making the space seem brighter and bigger.
Don't go for an oversize tile as this will make the room seem smaller.
black and white checkered floor
Tile (porcelain or ceramic) is very affordable right now and both come in a huge variety of light, natural colors (to open up the space). Consider adding a darker grout with 1/8" spacers (small) to add nice contrast and interest. Also consider using larger (13" or larger) tiles as they will help create an illusion of a larger space. Check existing material on the floor before you begin - if you're in an older home and linoleum has been put down, and down, and down over the years you will spend a lot of $ getting all of it up before you begin. A reputable tile store can provide you with business cards for 2-3 contractors. Get everything in writing from any contractor (entirely what they will be doing, including removal and disposal and what their guarantee is).
I agree with the black and white checkerboard; only do it on a diagonal - it makes the room look bigger.
bigger size tiles & lighter colored ones/ neutral colors.
try green and yellow
lighter colors, just saw a show on cork flooring, maybe check into that.
i would suggest larger tiles...maybe 16x16. definitely go for a lighter shade. it will make the room look bigger and brighter. also, light colored wall paint helps. oh, and good lighting. good luck.
fyi: it will be cheaper to tile the whole floor underneath the cab's instead of tiling after the cab's are installed ( cutting tiles will cost money and it will be easier to slide dishwasher in and out for repair or replacement). hope that helps.
light colored wood florings are easily matched and make rooms look classy and homey, in any size
any color you think would go with your house color.
