Concrete indoor floors: any ideas?

Question:i've just bought a house and we like the idea of stripping the old dirty crappy carpet and living the concrete underneath. We are willing to paint it, however we will be either tiling it or will be putting floor boards down at some stage. Can we still paint it even though we will be tiling/floor boarding it in the future? And is it safe to leave it as a normal concrete floor in the long run?

Answers:
I don't know about the painting then tile, but depending on where you live, concrete floors can become very cold, the carpet served to moderate that temp. Plain (painted) concrete, tile on concrete can continue that cold feeling. I would consider some type of insulation between concrete and hardwood or tile.

I know you can paint a concrete floors, but I'm not sure about putting tile over it-it will largely depend on the materials you are using.

to put tile down it is best not to paint it the tile will stick better
if your going to glue the wood down dont paint it
They make beautiful concrete stain as an alternative to painting. You can then protect it with epoxy sealers.

Just a thought...here are a couple of websites I found when I researched the idea a while back...
