What are the pro's and con's of Laminate flooring?
Question:I'm thinking about putting laminate flooring in my room, and I was just wondering what the pro's and con's were of it. Thanks!
Answers:
pros,do it yourself cheap, low maintinence in a bedroom, lots of styles to choose from
cons, while most no longer require glue you can have trouble locking the ends although the front and back lock easily, easy to cut wrong if inexperienced, hard to go around doorways unless you remove the trim, accessories, like trim, thresholds and shoe mold to match are VERY expensive, hard to repair, especially a piece in the middle, some are surfaced slick so remember to put rubber pad for grip under any throws you put on them,if you have large enough imperfections in the floor you'll have to repair them to make the flooring lock
pro's and con's of Laminated floors Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate ... Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring

pros: it is softer than hard floors, it has more friction than hard floors, it is less expensive than hard floors, there are lots of pretty designs to choose from.
cons: it is weak and prone to tearing, it gets sticky, it is less tolerant to harsh cleaning chemicals, it is easily punctured, it is not water tolerant. it is difficult to completely glue down and if you don't completely glue it down there will be mold problems. It gets dirty easily. It is difficult to clean and becomes more and more difficult with time. It can be very slippery and dangerous when oil spills on it.
I suggest tile floors. They're nicer.
Pros--fairly inexpensive and somewhat easy to apply and maintain. Plenty of choices in different prices.
Cons--Will not last forever. when damaged or scratched, not easy to fix or at all. Very hollow sounding when walked on, Does appear to look cheap.
for a bedroom? well it depends on what you mean.. do you mean like laminate kitchen type stuff or laminate wood?
If you mean laminate wood, ignore my "cons". I LOVE that stuff, and Empire Today has great prices and selection on it.
pro:
easy to clean
con:
not attractive for a bedroom, not 'cozy'
