Anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to put in laminate flooring for approx 1200 sq ft opposed to?

Question:carpet. I'm trying to have an idea before having some company come out and give me an estimate that will make me pass out.

Answers:
Typically you can expect to pay 2-3 dollars a sq ft for the laminate flooring and another 1-2 dollars a sq ft for the install. That comes out to between $3600 to $6000. If you take the low number of $3600 you get 27 per sq yd. You can get a pretty good carpet, paddding and install at $27. Hope this helps.

Unfortunatly, that depends entirely on where you are. The material should be mostly the same, but for example:

San Francisco, labor is about $15/sq ft.
Sacrament, labor is about $10/sq ft.

2 hours away and labor is crazy.

Now, my suggestions, I would go with a bamboo laminate or something like that. New carpet is so bad for you with all the VOC's, the gases in carpet is poison, and unless you can get out of the house for a few weeks, along with the pets and kids, it can be very harmful, and a nice laminate or hardwood can actually be almost half the cost, and installation is much easier if you choose to do it yourself.

Best thing is have a couple people come into your home for "free no obligation quotes". Most flooring companies can give you a pretty good quote if you take in some drawings and measurements.

Call around and see what you can find out.

Good luck
