Ladies, what color will look good for a room you want to have dimly lit?
Question:I plan on having a floor lamp in my studio apt when I move in to my studio this weekend, so what color should I paint it to make the light look good off of it?
BTW, my furniture is cherry walnut and one thing is maroon.
Im a 26 year old male, btw
Answers:
The lighter and brighter the color is, the more light it absorbs and reflects. Since you have cherry furniture dominating the wood accents, you may want to have a cream/white/very light beige with a red undertone to compliment the furniture. If a color has a red undertone, it looks warmer. If it has a blue undertone, it looks sharper.
Take a trip to home depot and pick color samples in the lightest beiges, and creams and whites with the red undertones. Bring them next to your furniture, check which color you like the best by inspecting how it looks early in the morning, later in the day and with the evening lighting option. You can eliminate color samples (chips) as you inspect. The one that stays is the color for you.
good luck
cream and beige or chocalate
Go for carmel colors and chocolate colors. Stick to the richer side of colors.
I know I am not a lady, but I just re-did my room. I painted my walls chocolate brown and the ceiling and trim is a real light tan. It matches the cherrywood of my bed and the maroon in the Victorian style bed spread. If you do go dark, you will have to change a lot to make it match. Look at outlets, light switches, and curtains. I got rustic light switches and outlets, and found real deep brown leather to use as curtains. What you get is a dim room that is extremely relaxing. Good luck
A chocolate brown on one wall, a dark tan on another, basically neutral colors.
I'd choose a pearlized dove gray for the wall that gets the most light, so it helps distribute natural light as widely as possible. The other walls would look nice in a medium-to-light taupe shade. Taupe can look very rich without being dark, and dark paint can look very gloomy in a small space.
