What are the steps I need to take to paint a sheet rocked wall?
Question:I removed some wood paneling in my house, put up sheet rock and taped, spackled and sanded over the nails and joints. Now I'm ready to paint. What are the steps? What's the best method? I know need primer but anything else before that?
Answers:
Prime with a cheap white paint, that will seal in any remaining dust, put 2 coats on the ceiling and your ceilings done. Do not use Kilz on new Drywall! When thats dry Edge out or cut the corners and roll. Dont buy cheap roller covers or brushes they will only make the job harder, clean these tools out when you done to use again someday. Please consider using Benjamin moore paint its the best paint and easy to work with...
Prime it with "killz" primer and tape off the edges so you don't get any paint on the ceiling or baseboards. Use drop cloths, a good brush and old clothes because you may get it all over you.
Noppers.
You need to get the dust off. First a vacuum cleaner, then a damp (not wet) sponge mop. You also need to use a special kind of primer made for drywall.
No matter what color you'll need 2 coats. Trim everything with a brush like 6 inches away from your trim. Then roll the walls in a W formation, this lessens drips and overlaps. If you have to stop do not do it in the middle of a wall. Stop at a corner. (that has been trimmed) YOU DO NOT NEED A PRIMER-YOUR PAINT WILL PRIME AND YOU DO NOT USE KILZ ON A NEW WALL ONLY ONE THAT NEEDS A REALLY GOOD PRIMER-LIKE A GREASY WALL)
