Is it safe to paint with kids in the house? What kind of paint would be safe to use?
Question:I need to paint my home which is not that big, but the only time I cando it is when they are asleep. They won't be in the same room. Are there any paint that don't have all the fumes?
Answers:
I believe any latex house paint would be the safest. The fumes are low and it dries very quickly and you can clean the brushes and roller with water unlike oil based paints that require dangerous chemicals for clean-up. If you can, leave a window open in the room you're painting for a couple of hours. Of course keep the paint and tools out of reach of the children.
Latex paint is good. If a little one wakes while your paint is still wet, you have the added advantage that it will wash off with water until it dries. My dog too often proves this.
Stay away from odor free paints they are difficult to work with, Most latex paints will be fine, Make sure some windows are open and a circulating fan will help. If it still smells try a couple of bags of Microwave popcorn that will change they odor for a while.
Sherwin-Williams has a super low-VOC (volatil organic compounds, the toxic stuff in paint fumes) water-based paint. That's what we used in our house (we have a 2 year old) their website is http://www.sherwin-williams.com/...
