Building a house?
Question:I'm having a new house built. It will be on a slab foundation and have siding. The guy who is building the house has mentioned having a bricklayer cover the cinderblocks with brick. However, for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out where cinder blocks will be needed. On top of the foundation, underneath it, on the foundation? Does anyone have a clue as to how cinderblocks would be used in the construction of a house with a slab foundation?
Answers:
When you build a house on a slab foundation, you need a starting point for the wall. If you placed the wall directly on the slab, there would be issues with gaps, leaks, etc. What they do is, create a short wall with cinderblocks around 4 or 5 high, that gives them a seeled bottom layer to build the wall from. They have to set the blocks to prevent the concrete from eating away at the wood. Hope I answered your question.
why don't you ask him yourself
Sometimes bricks are used under the front windows for decoration. Maybe even around the entry door.
Only other place would be if the lot was not level and there would be exposed portions of cinder block "surrounding" the slab. This would give the appearance of a basement.
