What color scheme would you go with? for a living room?

Question:The room has white and blue marbled carpet (very light blue, but it is definately blue). The room is currently painted almost a steel blue, all walls, and the ceiling. the blue ceiling is continued into the dining room, and both ceilings will be painted white, no matter what. the dining room is a very pale tan, and is very nice, so it won't get changed, but what colors would you put in the living room? My couch is almost a maroon color, and light oak coffee and end tables. HELP! lol I'm open for ALL suggestions. I like unique, but classy. thanks in advance!!

Hi,

I am a designer. I work for Benjamin Moore. I happen to have a very similar color palette in my home, by choice, not by accident.

Try one of my favorite colors of all-time, Tapestry Beige. It has a creamy, smoky undertone, and is a warm pale gray, not at all blue. It is a very neutral color that works well with tan, and spectacular with maroon. It really sets off reds like you cannot imagine. No other color trips my trigger with red than this shade. It's also perfect with most shades of blue, especially if your carpet leans toward a blue-gray rather than a baby blue.

I would try to warm the room up, rather than cool it off. Off-set the blue carpet with compatible, not matching, colors. Tapestry Beige would do that, making the tan room look like it was part of "the plan" all along. I wouldn't introduce any more colors...stick to what you have, blue, tan, maroon, but maybe consider maybe just a touch of black accents to anchor down the living room (black picture frames, maybe a black wroght iron wall piece, choose black-spined books for a book case or on a table, or maybe spraypaint a neat-shaped basket black...nothing over the top, just a smidge. Do the same in the tan room. Think of the black accent color like a thin ribbon that runs a little bit thru each area, tying things together rather loosely.

You can view these colors at www.benjaminmoore.com. It's free, and you can use the "personal color viewer" to paint rooms that resemble your own. When you find colors you'd like to see in real life, go back to the main page, and look under "professionals", and then "architects and designers". There you can order large 8"x8" color sample chips, as many as you like, for free, and I mean free shipping and everything! It only takes 3-5 days.

Good luck on your color quest and have fun...

We can't tell you what is best for you. Decorate it in colors and themes that are a reflection of your personality.
silver walls would be awsome with blue carpet
i personally would go with a medium o green and blue, u know somewere in between there because it would probably blend well with the carpet, but keep it brighter, it helps brighten the room and it makes the room more inviting.
It sounds like you have muted earth tones on the floor and in furniture, so anything that sort of matches what you have would work. I'd suggest something either off white, brownish or tan, but thats just me.
Check out a color called blue ice, its easy to live with. I believe it was Dutch Boy paint.
I think you should get rid of your blue carpet, because it would not match with a maroon couch. Then, you should paint the walls a dark shade of tan, which should complement the light oak and the couch. You should also have some other colors like browns and dark greens, because they go well with maroons and tans. With colors like these, you will have a very elegant living room, that will no matter what make you feel right at home.
my living room is hot coco and the lineing is bright yellow
I think that you should paint your walls a green or a bulish green or a lite yellow
I think you should paint the room a neutral color like biege and add pillows that match the floor to youtrsofa.
How about a pale yellow?
OK you are keeping the couch, how about a throw cover on the couch with coordinating pillows. You basically cannot paint the walls because it coordinates with the rugs. I would bring some tan accents for the living room and bring some blue accents to the dining room to keep the two rooms flowing. For accents think of either flower arrangements, maybe something beachy like seashells and sand decorations. Do not forget candles lots of candles...
