How to hang family pictures in collage and preserve the picture when framing?
Question:I have a lot of old and new pictures of my family I have been saving them for quite sometime. I plan on hanging them in my basement walls. I want to start with one wall and work it around the whole living room.
My questions is do you have any suggestions on
1. what order or how I should arrange them?
2. how can I hang them or what do I use when I am hanging them to protect the picture for years to come?
Answers:
First, think about scanning them and not using the original photos. I just did a collage and worked across the wall with the oldest photos to the newest photos. Sort of a growth chart. Also, I matted all of the photos exactly the same way with the same color to unify the collection even though some were B & W and some photos were in color. Purchase frames to protect them that are acid free and have glass that does not allow UVA/UVB light to destroy the photos.
If you are worried about preserving the photos, make color copies and hang the copies, and keep the originals in an album or an acid-free storage box.
Order: Favourites on top
How: NAIL IT!
Make sure that the pictures in the frame are sealed with gummed paper tape to exclude dust and moisture don't use Sellotape as it dries up over time and comes off, also ensure that the wall fixings, cords, hooks etc.are sound, but do what the professionals do and use gummed tape, and get proper picture hanging hooks don't use nails, the proper hooks come with special pins and cost pennies,.
Arranging them is matter of choice so spend a little time on this. You could start with the oldest pictures and work up to the latest.
