What kind of grout do you use with wide set tiles?

Question:the unsanded or the sanded?

Answers:
Actually, first you must ask are these going on a wall or the floor. For wall tiles, the grout line spacing is usually 1/8", for floor tiles it is usually 1/4". There are various other sizes you can choose, but these tend to be the standard sizes.

Next, decide what size spacing you are using. Unsanded grout is meant for gaps 1/8" or smaller. Sanded is for gaps which are greater than 1/8". Also important to note is that natural stone with a high gloss finish should always be grouted with unsanded, as sanded may scratch the finish. You need not take this precaution with high gloss glazed tile, as the glaze is a form of glass and is not easily scratched.

Next, decide what color you are looking for. You can either tryto make the grout lines blend in with the tiles, use a darker grout color to accent the lines, or a lighter color to accent the tiles. If you do not know what color to go with, I suggest the darker one as stains will be less apparent than with a lighter color.

After that, you must check to see if the grout you are using contains grout sealant or if you will have to buy that seperately. At the Menards I work at, we sell premixed grout which is more expensive but save the hassel of mixing it yourself as well as the fact that it is presealed.

One last note. If you plan on installing these tiles outside I would suggest getting a laytex additive for your grout to prevent it from chipping out after several freeze/thaw cycles.

Sanded.
Use non sanded grout for marble and granite or any other tile with a high polish finish so as not to scratch the finish. On all other tile such as ceramic or porcelain use sanded grout.
Sanded-you home improvment store should have suggestions and ppwk on it-
