Removing artex?

Question:How do i go about removing artex from a ceiling?

Answers:
Get the paint off using paint stripper first and then scratch it and soak it with water. It will then scrape off easily! ! !

Easier to skim over it with plaster
Messy job, either get someone else to do it or another messy job, get it plastered smooth.
if u have a wallpaper steamer then use that put the steamer on the artex till u see it change colour. the steams makes it soft enough as it cracks and brakes. once u get a gud bit of artex come off u will b well away should not take 2 long
not easy and not worth the hassle.

PVA the ceiling and skim it with plaster - half a days work

If you choose to take it all off it'll take you 2 days and you'll still have to skim the thing anyway.
Get it skimmed by a professional plasterer. Easier, cheaper, and far less hassle
You could remove it, but it's a mighty messy job. You MUST wet it, whatever means you use to remove it,(if you remove it totally) to avoid dust, old artex contained asbestos. You would really be better off removing high spots with the back of a broom rubbed over the ceiling (use a dust mask and vaccum well afterwards) and having it skimmed flat by a plasterer.
here are couple of tips to help you out

1) Use a steam stripper to soften the artex then scrap of.

2) To remove artex from a smallish area, try Nitro-mors (the paint stripper). It will soften and be easy to scrape.

3) The area should be caulked or skimmed out (this means apply a smooth coat of texture / plaster over the existing pattern) by a Texturer / Plasterer. You will then be free to redecorate the walls or ceiling to your desired taste.
it would be easier to get it skimmed with plaster, saves all the mess and hassle, depending on how large your ceiling is my mums just done the same thing, the guy charged her£80.00 i think it was. if you decide against this the guy above me mentioned nitro morse, whatever you do if you use this, especially on a ceiling, get kitted out in all the safety gear you can,hat ,goggles rubber gloves,etc..this stuff is like acid and will give you nasty burns.
