Please help! Big tv cut out in my wall what kind of doors can I get to cover it?

Question:I have a big tv cut out in my wall that is above my fireplace. The whole is 46 1/2inches wide by 29 1/2inches tall. I want to put doors or something like that so I can still hide stuff up there. Any suggestions as to what kind of doors i would need? And where can I get them? I asked at lowes and the lady told me to use plywood, and that is not an option. So PLEASE HELP

Answers:
It depends on what you want it to look like . There are many options you can do . finished shelving like a book case or ,
a large picture on hinges. Finished plywood like oak , cherry ,
can be used as well use hideaway hinges . it really depends on what you want .
You could line the inside with peel and stick 12" mirror then
hang glass or clear plastic doors framed of course with diagonal cherry wood . use glass shelving inside . Recessed ligthing is a nice affect inside to show of nick nack,s etc .

so what about finding some mirrors? you can always make a frame for them and hang them up yourself. just make sure you get some nice looking hinges and knobs for it.
I assume the existing TV cabinet is flush with the sheetrock surrounding it.

Find a local cabinetmaker or cabinet dealer who can make/order you a "faceframe and doors", which would have the doors mounted to a wood frame with the hinges already in place. This should have three doors so that the doors are of a pleasing size (two would be very wide doors).

This can be made to size and glued and nailed with pin nails to the edges of the cabinet.

A cabinet dealer could order factory-finished wood, typically oak, maple or cherry or unfinished paint-grade hardwood if you want to paint them.

I suggest painting them if your woodwork and room doors are painted in the house. If your trim is stained wood then try to match it by taking a piece in to the dealer or bringing home samples.

For appropriate style, look at the entry doors to rooms in your house. Since this cabinet should be part of the architecture of the house it should match those doors as closely as possible.

The face frame and doors will stick out 3/4" from the wall behind it.
A bit of crown on top might be appropriate for some houses...depending on the style of your house.

Another idea might be to add wainscoting to the entire wall around the fireplace with doors in the wainscoting. Just be sure to hold wood at least 12" away from the firebox opening (or to code in your municipality). This has a kind of "library look" to it. The most expensive option.

A third idea, and the cheapest by far, is to just sheetrock over the existing opening and paint the new wall.
get some of the wood shutters that you put on the inside of your windows that open and close like cabinets. They are not overly expensive, and they look nice.
