Big tv cut out in my wall what kind of doors can I get to cover it?
Question:I have a big tv cut out in my wall that is above my fireplace. The whole is 46 1/2inches wide by 29 1/2inches tall. I want to put doors or something like that so I can still hide stuff up there. Any suggestions as to what kind of doors i would need? And where can I get them? I asked at lowes and the lady told me to use plywood, and that is not an option. So PLEASE HELP
Answers:
I have seen three different options for this type of project:
First one used window (plantation) shutters cut down to fit the opening.
Second one used an antique stained glass window that was cut to fit the opening (very pricey too). This one actually looked the best.
The third option had raised panel doors custom made to fit the opening. Project was reasonably priced too.
The best option depends on the style of your home and decor.
You would have to call a Specialty carpentry company, not Lowes. Your going to have to pay a bit but itll look nice.
You might want to call a cabinet maker to give you some suggestions on styles available. I if you have a large print, you may be able to cover up the void. A large mirror would look nice also. I don't understand why so many builders are installing these cutouts. Go with the framed mirror option. And if you want to put some kind of hinge on it so you can swing it open to get to the shelves, I'm sure it can be done.
What about slated bi-fold doors ? Are you handy with a drill and screwdriver? You could even add some small shelving. Good idea!!
Even nice window shutters could be hinged as doors and you might get better size choices.
