Bi-fold doors?
Question:Where can I get bi-fold doors? and are they easy to install?
Are they very expensive?
Answers:
Home Depot, Lowes or any good home supply store will carry them. If they don't have what you want on display ask to see catelogs and order what you want.
The cost of the doors will depend on many factors like the material and complexity of construction etc. I recommend staying away from cheap doors since they are usually made of soft pine and do not last.
Hanging Bi-Fold doors is relatively simple. You hang a metal guide at the top of the door frame and then insert the glide rollers mounted on the top of the door into it, then adjust it. Most of the stores, like those mentioned above, will give you free instruction on installing doors like this. Don't be afraid to ask.
lOWES OR hOME DEPOT CARRY THEM AND i INSTALLED SOME MYSELF PRETTY SIMPLE TO DO. gOOD lUCK oH AND BY THE WAY THEY COME UNFINISHED OR FINISHED DEPENDS IF YOU WANT TO PAINT THEM OR NOT.
Most home centers sell bi fold doors. the Home Depot and Lowes sell a raise panel set for a single wide closet up to 36" wide for about 60.00. They are just a Masonite set. They can be a bit of a pain to install if your opening is out of square or not plumb but a saw with planer and a circular saw with a good blade can resolve any serious issues.
The installation of the doors is rather simple and the directions come with the doors. The track and hardware also comes with the doors. The installation consist of installing a track on the head of the frame with a couple of screws and setting a small guide to the bottom of the stationary side of the frame, measuring the height of the door opening between the top track and the bottom guide to make sure the new bi folds will fit. If a floor is carpeted the bottom of the bi folds will need to be cut. 3 Pins will then need to be installed into predrilled holes on the top of the door and at the bottom. These pins will lock into the top track guide and the bottom guide. 1 pin on the top is a spring loaded pin that goes into the top guide and the other pin at the top has a roller on it. The pin with a roller on it will go into the track on the operating side of the door. The bottom pin has teeth on it and this pin sits into the bottom guide. This pin is adjustable and you can adjust it for fitting the door into the opening for height.
After the bi fold doors are in the opening you can adjust it ti fit into the opening by adjusting where the door sits onto the bottom guide and by adjusting the guide in the top track on the stationary side. After the bi fold doors are set a hole must be drilled through the center of the operating side panel for the wooden knob that comes with the doors.
Now that doesn't sound to hard to install does it?
Depending on what you are looking for as far as bi fold doors are concerned will depend on the cost. There are so many different styles. The kit I mentioned above are the easiest to install. Others such as bi fold mirror doors can't be cut and work will be needed to prep an opening if the height isn't right. I wish you the best of luck with your project if you decide to do it.
