What are some nice accent colors for a deep red brick house?
Question:I am buying a modest split entry house and it requires alot of exterior cosmetics. Currently it has a deep dark red brick with the same color mortar (like a barn red) on the front exterior. The sides and back of the home are pale grey vinal siding and is a little worn and cracked. The shutters are black. The front door is white and the shingles are like a grey/taupe color. The tiny front step is grey. Talk about a mix match! I'm trying to think of some nice accent colors or how to fix this mess. I thought..make the whole house brick barn red like the front - maybe give it some taupe contrast mortar. Give it an arched wooden door in some sort tan/brown color. Bring out a little arched canopy over the door and give it two pillar accents in a cream shade and accent the shutters in vintage style with cream shade as well...and the step in brown/cream? Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I'm not quite sure with such a dark and bland brick.

I agree with M S. You've made the best choice on your own.
Your ideas would make your house much more inviting and give visual order to its overall appearance.
all neutral colors especially gray and black
i would say earth tones tans budgie creams grays all would look good
Wow! You don't need us, you had a great solution all on your own!
I also think earth tones would work very well with your ideas.
I like a grayish blue with that barn red color - maybe the shutters could be that color then use traditional black and white trim in other places. Match the front door to the shutters or get a nice wood door. Personally I don't think taupe/tan/cream is going to pop enough against that red. I'd use white on the pillars.
Go to a Benjamin Moore paint store. They have paint chips with coordinating colors for outside paint. You could find that barn red and see what colors they coordinate with it.
