Salad Bowl / Basin sink vs. Traditional Undermount sink?
Question:Hey Y'all,
I am going to be renovating my entire house. Starting with the bathrooms. I have 4 total (with one downstairs). I am thinking about having "salad" bowl / basin sinks. Any one have any experience with them vs. regular undermount sinks?
In particular:
1. splashing (more?)
2. cost of product
3. cost of installation
4. pratical?

The ones I have worked with have all splashed a lot. Definitely not for a high use area or a child's bath. Also a pain for cleaning since you can't wipe into the bowl. They will cause conflict with most faucets, finding a faucet to work with these sinks is difficult and often very expensive. They can look fabulous in a seldom used powder room but be careful about how height the cabinet is, they will add a few inches and are often installed way too high for short people or children. Yes they splash, are expensive and I don't think practical. If you want to renovate your bathrooms again in 10 years maybe then yes. Use materials that are traditional when renovating, if you go with the Fads of the day , in a few years your bathroom will look outdated. I would stick with real marble , you can always change the paint or wallpaper but changing the vanity and sink would really be a pain. Hope this helps and good luck.
I also find that they splash too much, but they do look pretty nice, so I suggest that if you are putting it in a guest bath or powder room that is used less often but will present a wow factor then it would be fine. I don't recommend it for your everyday personal use.
salad bowls are expensive though they look good. undermount sink will be hard to replace if and when you need them replaced. integral sink has a clean look but pricey. top mount sink is the most practical. easy to replace and costs a lot less.
cost is high and if you sell they are not a plus for resale ,,practical no...stick with the undermount...you will be happier with that choice...
