Which order to paint?

Question:Just a quick one. I am planning on painting my ceiling, coving (polystyrene), walls and skirting board. I haven't fitted my skirting board yet due to a lack of funds, so was wondering whether i should start with painting the ceiling?
Also, what is the best type of paint to cover coving?

Answers:
In this order

Ceiling (& coving)
Walls
Woodwork (Skirting boards, doors)

Matt (or possibly Vinyl Matt) for ceilings and coving

if you have polystyrene ceiling you should take it down and put something safer in. thats one big fire hazzard
ceiling first.. and there is a special paint for it that you can buy
Allways start at the highest point first, so go for the ceiling...Cant help you with the paint though...sorry
You should start with the ceiling, coving, and then paint the walls. Whatever you're using on your ceiling is fine for the coving too, eg emulsion. If you are insisting on painting the coving a different colour (oh please don't!) then really, really use emulsion as if you use anything glossy, it'll be hell to paint over if you change your mind. Ideally, you should paint the skirtings before the walls too as the coving and skirting are the areas you're most likely yo go over the edges on, so if you paint the walls after that, then you can correct any errors. Eggshell or satin look better on woodwork than gloss does, and it's easier to work with too. Good luck!
i paint my ceiling, skirting boards then the walls
ceiling walls woodwork
Always do the ceiling and coving first. The new coving will need at least 3 coats of the same paint as the ceiling. Polystyrene coving shows the pattern of the poly through one coat. Matt white will look the smartest as it does not show up the blemishes in the plaster.
Then do one coat on the walls. Follow with the woodwork, doors, skirting etc. undercoat. Use an acrylic one as it is water based and dries in an hour. Finish the walls and then finish the woodwork. I have been a Painter and decorator for many years and this is how I do this work.
Polystyrene coving is real rubbish.Personally replace it with plaster coving. After that, check the ceiling for bad staining, like water marks etc, If water stained, paint stain with white oil based undercoat. Then, 3 coats white emulsion on ceiling and coving.
i would suggest you just paint the ceiling and coving for now,if you were to do the walls before you fixed the skirt you would have to touch up the wall above it a little, also its best just to use emulsion on the coving.
never painted polystyrene but assume would be emulsion same as your ceiling, then i would paint the skirting as its a whole lot easier to wipe emulsion off of glossed wood than it is to try and wipe the gloss off of your lovely new painted walls, in a perfect world paint your ceiling then your walls then paint your skirting before you fit it for a perfect finnish but then nobody renews their wood work everytime the decorate do they
Dump the polystyrene.
