70s paint wont come off the stairs?
Question:ok we pulled up the carpet on our stairs and there was this beautiful oak wood the previous idiot owners had covered. The only porblem is theyre was the original pain (from the 70s)
on theyre. We tryed using paint stripper but it wouldnt come off and some guy at lowes told us the paint stripper doesnt work on paint that old. Any one have suggestions how to get it off?(we already tryed sanding and the best paint stripper lowes had!)
Answers:
it has soaked in deep. Repaint or replace. You could try wood laminate but it just won't be the same.
paint over it
I refinish antique furniture, and there is a stripper that Walmart carries called Dads Stripper, and it has even take yellow paint off antique furniture for me, which is usually almost impossible to get out. Give it a try.
try a heat gun. first to remove most of the paint. you heat up the surface and use a scraper to remove, then use a sander to remove the residual paint, finish sanding then apply the stain and finish of you choice. good luck
