Definitely do red! I would go with a fire engine red color. My bedroom is painted that color and everybody loves it. It might look loud when you paint it but once you add black furniture and dark colors in it will tone it down. But overall it looks very nice.
I vote for blue. I once used a color called "Chalk Blue" from "CIL Paints" in Canada. I used it on the walls and ceiling including all trim/baseboards. You could also use white for all trims & mouldings. If you have not yet selected your bedding, I'd go for white sheets and Comforter/Bedspread. Then you can have fun using RED as your accent color: pillows, drapery & bedskirt (red & white wide stipes would be elegant), flowers, vases, carpets, upholsted chair, artwork, lampshades.
I hope this helps - good luck with your room.
PS - Personally, I am planning to use this same 'chalk blue' again, but I'm going to paint the doors, trim & baseboards "high gloss black".
keep in mine black goes with anything and if the room is small use a light bright color to make it feel bigger red would be nice but maybe you can try antique white and use red as an accent but if you go with red on the walls maybe use some whit to off set the dark colors
You are best not to paint your bedroom red. Red is a very uplifting color and it doesn't allow rest. Any color is good with black so choose a color your like. My personal preference is a taupe/sand/mushroom color with black. Its a soothing, calming color which will make the black furniture stand out beautifully.
Black Furniture. Since red is your favorite color consider a very very warm red. Another idea I have in mind is Chocolate, but not too dark. With this your accent colors would be a med/ light blue.
Comforter, window treatment...
If you pick out colors you like & enjoy you can't go wrong.

I am in the process of removing the paint on my bedroom furniture and painting it black. I seemed to have gravitated towards the green colours - mostly sage. I want the room to be soothing.
