Ceilings are low. Painted with satin finish paint. Would a flat finish make ceilings appear higher?
Question:I keep trying different things to make the ceilings appear higher. Any other suggestions?
Answers:
On some decorating show, this was a problem. The designers solution was to make the low ceiling light in color and darken the surrounding walls. This has a pushing effect that makes the ceiling seem higher.
yes
About the only thing you can do is paint them bright white, flat or satin should have little effect.
Any sheen on the ceiling will make it seem more visible as well as any imperfections in the drywall, so yes a flat would work better. Also tall vertical curtains, mouldings, or furniture will make the room seem taller.
two tone the walls with the lighter color being next to the ceiling, hang all pictures and shelves lower than usual, and get rid of any tall furniture in the room. Replace the ceiling light with lamps, wall lights, or recessed lights.
lower the floor or try mirrors on the ceiling when you look into mirrors you seem to go on and on
Ceiling Colors for Colored Walls:
White is not always the best color for a ceiling. White can make a ceiling appear closer in a room with a low ceiling. Whenever possible, try to add some color to your ceiling. A simple way to do this is to use a shade of the wall color. The perfect hue can be created by mixing one part of the wall's paint with two or three parts pure white. Add some crown molding if you don't already have it.Because this will also give the room a finished look. And it can be painted the same color or a shade darker than the ceilings. By using shades of the same color, you will ensure that all the tones look good together.
Ceiling Colors for White Walls:
If your walls are white, this does not mean your ceilings have to be white. Color on the ceiling will give a room dimension and flair. Using soft hues will make the room open up because they evoke feelings of the outdoors. It can be sky blue, sunset peach, or sunlight yellow.
Ceiling Colors for Dark Rooms:
If you have a dark room, consider painting the ceiling with a high-gloss finish that will amplify the room's available light. This can be tricky because high-gloss paint will highlight any flaws in the surface. In small spaces, such as an entryway, a mirror can be installed on the ceiling. It will add height and light to the small space.
