as others have said it is spun-fiberglass insullation. depending on the density it is given an R-factor rating. most exterior walls will have R-30 and the denser the fiberglass the more there is to irritate your skin. the fibers can be very small and get into your pores easily. be sure to wear long sleeves and gloves when working with fiberglass insullation.

If it is pink it basically just means it is Pink Panther brand, who has been the top manufacturer for a long time. Other brands are generally just white.
