Why do people paint their front doors red? Does it symbolize something?

In exterior design of a home, your front door should be the "bulls eye" of your home. Red attracts the eye immediately, so the front door is the first thing you see.

I've had a red door for over 10 years, just put in a new door and painted it red again. I love red doors, and it definitely is the first thing you see from the road which adds to curb appeal.
