Dads getting new carpet and has questions ?

Question:hi , my father is getting new carpet for his home and just wants to know some basic things . he has 2 dogs and they arnt fully trained if you know what i mean . so he wants to know would it be much more expencive to go with wood instead of carpet ? hes pretty old ( in his 60's ) so he doesnt want tile for some reason . any idea . he wants flooring for 2 bedrooms , a living room , and a dining room . any estimates on what he can expect to pay . thanks

Answers:
i think wood would be a lot easier for him to clean, and if he wants to he could throw down some rugs for comfy walking. There is really great prices on laminate flooring at lowes right now [here's a link to one] http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=pr... and that would add up to around $1,000

it really depends on the type of wood he wants to put down & where he gets it. Same w/ carpet & padding. I understand the thing w/ the dogs.. i have 2 &previous & cats... i have a carpet in a room that is ruin... & am debating it but i think in the long run, i'm leaning more towards tile. I would love to put real wood down, but i don't think it will stand up as well as laminated/Pergo wood floors... so that's a route that can go. I watched yrs ago that he with-stands pets & heals.. sooo mayb Pergo over carpet.
definitely a wood laminate floors will be an easy job for him and for both dogs. I can understand why he does not want any tile... they can be quite dangerous when slippery for the elderly and quite hard on their legs when standing for a while on them so a good quality vinyl in the kitchen is the way to go for him. Today pricing is pretty much the same for wood, carpet or vinyl it all depends on the quality but thank goodness they've become more affordable and easy to install.
Without the total sq. footage of the room it pretty hard to give an estimate. I'm sure there is a good and reputable carpet company in your area who can measure bring samples and can give you a fair estimate. Good Luck!
did you do any research on lumber liquidators dot com?
No carpet with untrained dogs...just asking for problems !!
As far as the expense, wood flooring is comparable to carpet.
Check out Home Depot or Lowe's. They have a great variety.

And btw 60ish isn't "pretty old" !! :))))
