Can i build steps for my basement?

Question:i am buying a house built in the 1930's. the house was totally remolded, but the only access to the basement is thru the outside cellar door. is it possible to put in stairs somewhere in the floor of the house?

Answers:
Absolutely. I had a similar situation. I used an existing closet as the entryway to the basement and it worked out great.

You just need to make sure to support the floor joists from underneath with lolly columns before you cut through any joists.

Do a search on "stair calculation" to find some good calculators for calculating rise and run.
