Answers:
Well hello there Louisville! I grew up in Canton.
When I was back home my favorite place for stuff like that was The Salvation Army downtown. However up near 43rd (there is a Fishers and a cemetary on the corner) on Cleveland Avenue there is a resale shop.
Take this old stuff that you have collected - paint it a contrasting color than you black walls - do you realize how many coats of paint it is going to take to get them black? Have the primer tinted a REALLY dark grey - will help.
Is the Quonsut (spelling) Hut still there?
How about Spencer's? Does Belden still have Spencer's? Oh and Value City in Whipple is a REALLY good place, but I think there is a Value City in Alliance also.
Don't forget that you can always paint the shapes that you want on the furniture. I painted my rear end and sat on my desk then my hands and feet and a few designs. The furniture was black and my body parts were in pink.that furniture after 20 years still makes the rounds through the teenagers in my family back there in Ohio...
Ok... As a mother of an 16 year old I screaming in my head b/c this happened to me also.. But my son got a lot of his stuff from Spencer's You should find them in the mall. have fun.
Just make sure that whatever you do that it can be removed, taken down or painted over if you chang your mind in a few years., your parents will thank you.
buddy you have to stick photos of gothic women naked! and write phrases.. like Feel the chemical romance, or Ninio manson...
Don't paint the walls. Go with black sheets on the walls and ceiling. Use 1x1 or 1x2 to hold the sheets on.
Wow, that sounds really exciting! One of my friends is a wiccan and that gives me a pretty good idea of the sorts of things she has in her room.
1. Furniture: Cheap but not broken is the best way to go about this one. Warning, this is the most expensive part of your entire project.
-www.craigslist.com is a site where you can probably find your town and see the things people are selling from your community. It's eerie how cheap some of the stuff is because people just want it out of their house, and most likely you can actually bargain and lower the price.
-www.wickedelements.com is a site a little on the expensive side, but one glance at the furniture they sell and you'll be telling yourself it's worth the price.
- www.shopgoodwill.com is the perfect place to find furniture. It's used, yes, but there's so much to search through and most of it is antique so you'll be able to find a cheap piece that fits your theme.
- www.ikea.com sells pretty cheap furniture. It sort of lies in-between the normal price and the cheap price, so it's a partial stretch beyond expensive.
-Don't forget that you can find someone to make a cover for a piece of furniture, so buy on the type you like, not the color, because you can find people who will make whatever color covers for the furniture so you won't see that hideous brown of a loveseat when you want it to be black.
2. Wiccan decor: Obviously you'll want to flaunt your practice into your guests' faces. Trinkets and certain natural items will give you that touch of macabre to a graceful soothing environment.
- www.shopgoodwill.com is, once again, the perfect site for finding things you want for cheap more than reasonable prices. You'll find chandeliers for a few dollars and aged candlesticks in gold, brass, copper, and tin. You can find candles with stones or leaves or even flowers already inside of them, as well. They have religious items you can also purchase. Everything here is unique but will fit with what you're looking for.
- Dollar Store : Any kind of dollar store near you will sell cheap cheap goods (and if you're lucky you'll find the real dollar store where everything really is a dollar) and this is the perfect place to find everything you don't have the money for elsewhere. Blankets with prints can be bought at low prices and you can buy fake flowers to arrange in a vase or nail along the doorframe of your room. Candles can be bought here by the masses and so can frames.
- www.wiccanway.com is the site that you'll most likely be spending your time at. Tarot cards, crystal balls, runes, stones, everything you'll need to spice up your wiccan practice can be found here for decoration as well as personal needs.
- Nature: There's your best bet to a cost-free decoration ensemble. Press flowers and leaves and then preserve them inside frames or glue them to walls.
3. Walls/Paint: Here's your toughest section whether you'd like to believe it or not. Picking a paint and a design can be very difficult.
-www.behr.com is where I purchased all of my paint from. It's generally around 23 dollars for one gallon of paint but you;ll need 2 gallons of paint at the most for your room. I wouldn't recommend painting all of the walls black, honestly. Please disregard this if I'm wrong, but being a wiccan isn't about being dark and elegant but surrounded by darkness. Nature plays an incredibly large role in the practice and I believe that if you'd like to display your practice more efficiently, you might want to consider painting the ceiling like the constellations (as 3rd grade as that sounds) and you may want to paint one wall black but paste real leaves swirling down, or paint them. Make a wall dark brown with a few trees and make a wall a dark green painted like a jungle. Leave the one wall you have left to be painted white and have that be the wall you decorate with people you admire or certain artifacts that remind you of who you are and how important your practice is to your life. Embrace the aspects of your belief and incorporate them into your design.
As far as your parents go, I think it would be a wise idea to sit down with them and discuss with them the importance of this project as a crucial point in your growing independence. Deliver your argument, have sketches ready and estimated prices and research done and at hand for them to review with you. It'll be easier for them to handle when they at least know what will happen and it'll be easier for you as well so you don't get your hopes up for buying something only to receive a no in response from one of them. Also, a trick I've used is to appeal to the parent who will take your side more first, and then present your case with that parent to the other parent. Your chances of coming out on top will increase greatly that way. And, since you said your friend will be involved, you may want her parents to become involved on your side, but only if they'll help your case. Good luck, and if you need anything else, e-mail me.
