Professional painters can you help?
Question:We just brought a house, the one thing I don't like about it is the paint. It's a strong lemon colour (very yellow) right through. I want to paint it a pastel grey colour. What needs to be done? Will it need a primer because of the original colour? Will it need more than 2 coats to cover it? Any other tips? Thanks
Answers:
on interior walls that have previously been painted with latex paint you do not have to prime! as long as you use at least a mid- grade paint& use 2 coats! My husband has been a painter for 10yrs and his method of ALWAYS applying 2 good coats of your new color has never failed!!Hope this helps!! ( this even managed to cover my own disaster with a pastel yellow that turned out neon!!)
safest way to go and you dont have to give it extra coats prime it first///////////////have you ever checked out hgtv.com..good luck
I agree with priming it first. Try KILZ oil base for the exterior and water base for the interior. I have used this product many times over the years with great success.
Yellow is a very difficult color to cover. You will need at least 2 coats of very good primer. If you want to paint it grey, I would get a dark tint primer (they'll know what you mean at the paint store)
well if your painting over latex paint, no you don't have to prime and yes most likely you do have to put 2 coats,
