What can I do to make my stucco ceilings look more attractive?

Raised Plaster Stenciling can add beautiful raised designs to your ceilings. These are special thick stencils and all you do is tape the stencil to the ceiling, smear joint compound (comes pre-mixed in a bucket at Lowe's, Home Depot, even Walmart and Kmart near the paint aisle) over the stencil with a plastic scraper, remove the stencil and allow it to dry. The design will be raised and will totally disguise the roughness of the stucco beneath while adding an eye catching design to the area.

You can be as plain or fancy as you would like, even going so far as to add an ornate design around ceiling fixtures to mimic a ceiling medallion, cover the the entire ceiling with square panels of designs (to look like an embossed ceiling) or use a design randomly over the ceiling like a wallpaper effect.

Simply do a search on google or yahoo for Raised Plaster Stencils. There are tons to choose from and this is the easiest decorating project you will ever do!

Difficult question. I just painted all my stucco ceilings.. I'm afraid to say that if you haven't yet painted them, you may be able to remove the stucco easily with a scraper and some water. Be wary of potential asbestos if you have an older home. This is of course besides drywalling your ceilings.

If like me you keep the stucco, the best thing to do besides give it a good coat of paint is to consider adding crown moldings. This will take the eyes of the stucco and guest will say, wow, nice moldings! :)

As my home is 1970's I also changed all the lighting, and added ceiling fans... general updating and painting in this manner will freshen the ceiling and make the stucco less obvious (hopefully!)
depending on your room use some creative paint swirls also tos some glitter up on the wet stucco you can also get stucco pattern rollers at lowes they work pretty good and i like the diffrent textures too
Use a large putty knife and scrape the stucco off. it will be messy so lay down tarps. Then either paint it or put mirrored or decorative tiles with the sticky bacings .you can lay tiles out on floor until you get design you want then stick them to cieling. or get creative with wood strips.
hang boogers from it
We have ours painted a nice white, but living in the country, to keep it looking nice, we actually have to dust it. (you would be surprised by how quickly cob webs show up on those) Our lighting fixtures that are on the ceiling, are a nice brass that really looks good against them.
