What should be included in a tool set for an interior designer?
Question:I have a friend graduating with a degree in interior design, and I want to give her a gift of a nice tool set. I'm planning on the basics like hammer, screwdriver, laser level, etc, but what might an interior designer need most?
Answers:
A metal tape measure. A selection of screws and nails. Picture hanging kit. A selection of drywall anchors. Velcro wrap. The camera is a great idea and a must. A briefcase. A portfolio (for her pictures and letters of reference). A step ladder.
There are so many more things, that you kind of pick up as you go along (or learn about from your peers) that you add to your toolbox over time, too.
A digital camera. I have used one many times and the images have helped when I couldn't remember specifics on a project. It also documents a before image which can help in proving an existing condition. i.e., a worker is blamed for damages in the performance of his work. Pictures document progress of projects, unforeseen conditions in demolition, and the finished product ( to show to future clients).
A digital camera is a must have, and basic hand tools, money would not hurt, if you can afford it.
