I need to take the wallpaper off my walls, but when i start to peel the actual wallpaper off, the drywall is..
Question:coming off with it. You can see what looks like cardboard stuck on the back of the wallpaper. Any suggestions or tips would help immensely. Thanks.

Most likely the builders took a shortcut and wallpapered directly to the drywall without using a primer first. If this is so and you try removing the wallpaper you will damage the drywall. So you're going to have to paint over the wallpaper .
You will first have to pull off any areas that are easily removed like edges that lifted and seams that have curled up.
Using a latex primer can often result in a bigger mess as the water in the paint starts to lift the paper wherever it is poorly bonded. I always use an oil base primer like KILZ as it bonds very well to the wallpaper face and does not cause any of the spot lifting. Kilz comes ready mixed and is a very thick coating so I suggest you reduce it about 20% with paint thinner. This allows you to spread it easier and more evenly.
Allow the primer to dry and remove any small areas of the wallpaper that may have curled up. Spackle any seams that are showing, rough areas left from removing efforts and other imperfections. When dry sand lightly with 120 grit sandpaper, spotprime those areas and proceed with your new finish, new wallpaper or a coat of finish paint.
try a steam machine from a rental co.
You can buy a liquid that is suppose to help with gets wallpaper off. Or you can use fabric softner.. Soak a sponge or rag in it and score the wallpaper so the fabric softner can get behind the paper and it will peel off.
Either rent a steamer designed for removing wallpaper, or buy a wallpaper removing solution (detergent) The steam will melt the wallpaper paste and allow you to remove it easily, and the liquid solution will do the same (applied with hot water). Both work well, but you will need to wash any residue off the walls, and sand them before applying primer.
Good Luck.. fun fun fun!!
hot washcloth pressed on there for a couple of sec. keep doing it until it gets kinda "soggy" and peel off
i agree use a steam machine
or you could use Downy Fabric softener, mix equal parts of water and downy get a big sponge and dab it on let it set for a minute or two and it should peel off easier, we had 5 layers of wall paper on our house that we bought and this helped at the time we could not afford to rent a steam machine
It means someone didn't prep the surface properly when they put it up (i.e Primer) You may have to pull all of the wallpaper down and then skimcoat it and prime before you do anything else.
try searching lowe's or home depot web sites they have a special do it yourself area that will answer more questions!
You can do three things.
1. Buy some wallpaper remover- apply it and it will loosen the glue; then you peel it.
2. wet a washcloth and keep a bucket of water beside you...keep wetting the cloth and after you soak the wall you can peel it easier ...
3. Use an iron or some kind of direct heat source- hold it a half inch away from the wall and the heat will release the glue completely BUT it's very time consuming and you have to be VERY careful not to burn yourself or catch the house on fire!
Good luck.
I had this same problem, though it was on a ceiling! I used a fine grade of sand paper on a hand held sander, and sanded the wall paper off, and then primed the area prior to painting. Be cautious with using too much water if you use the methods mentioned by others, water marks on drywall are permanent and almost always leak through any paint that you coat the wall with, even after a coat of primer.
Take care, and good luck!
