First thing you are from reach teakwood state 'Karnataka'.
Teak wood grade is mainly known on their origan means 'place
it came from'Barma,Malashia are the well known forgin teak
in India.Dandeli (karnataka),Paratwada,Nagpur(M...
Konkan(Maharashtra)are some of indian teak.Quality and price
depends upon age.More the teak old more the price. You can
count circles at cross section of wood which means age of
wood.Minium 20 years are requiered for good quality wood.
Barma teak,Nagpur teak is mainly use for high quality
interier.Barma costs up to 1800 Rs/2200 Rs & Nagpur 1400 to
1600 Rs per qubic foot.Other teak wood also use for interier
but mainly they use for doors & windows.Malashian, partwada
costs up to 1200 Rs/qubic foot & Konkan 900 Rs /qbf.At the time
purchase you must see minium knoghts on wood,Minimum whitness,
No cracks,no holes. If you buy Barma teak then you need not woory
about beause its grains are mostly parrelar,no knoghts,& similer
brownish colour.
Its rate is on qubic foot basic,a British measering type.A Qube having
1 feet in width,1feet in length & 1 feet in hight is call as 1qbf.
If you have a peace having dimenshens 6 inch x 8 inch x18 inch then
its qbf is as follow,
(6 x 8 x 18)/1728= 0.5 qbf(here 1728 alwayes constant means 1qbf)
Further multiply this figer by rate you will get price.
For wholsale rate you may bargain & If you want to be a trader
then you have to take part in oction held at forest.
I have no idea where you get quality teakwood in Mysore - only know for Kolkata, Assam and Delhi. And prices vary widely from region to region. So no point telling you what is costs in Kolkata.
A good quality teakwood is an investment for life time. However, it's expensive because it's in high demand and requires tedious processing.
So, your first clue is often the price. As with most things in life, the better the product, the costlier it is.
Next, you can generally tell quality teak by the weight of the product. High-quality teak is heavy, with a smooth grain and no knots (or small pieces glued together).
Lesser-quality teak furniture is apt to be lightweight, knotted and held together with metal screws and bolts.
Look for a smooth grain. Hardwood teak won't be streaked. The grain will be nice and consistent.
Hope these tips helps.
