Shelf/Drawer Liner on Kitchen Countertops?
Question:The small apartment that I'm moving into has a kitchen countertop that has been painted over with oil paint (as far as I can tell). I was going to repaint it myself and cover it with acrylic polyurethane but I'm not really comfortable that it would be durable and I doubt it would be foodsafe. I'm considering using shelf or drawer liner instead. This may sound foolish to ask, but is there a good way to go about doing this? I don't feel that the adhesive on the back of the liners would keep it down long. Is there something that I can use (a coat of glue or paint) that would hold it down. I also don't want to have a hard time in the future being able to get it off if I need to. Thanks for any ideas provided.

They have those sticker granite looking counter top covers it has adhesive on the back you just lay it down and smooth it out and it will peel right off if you ever needed to take it off. Home depot i think has it or any hardware home improvement stores.
I don't know how good an idea this is. If you cut things on the surface of the counter you could cut the covering. It will peel off after a while, crumbs can get stuck on the underside... it just doesn't sound clean. There are a ton of other low cost ways to redo a counter top. Take a walk through Home Depot and I am sure you can figure out something using plywood and laminate. You can just glue laminate down on top of the existing paint. You would have to sand it first though. How about tile? You can find some end of line tiles that are on sale... good luck!
If you are using adhesive backed paper, be sure to burnish it with the side of a craft stick--popsicle stick--to make sure it
adheres to the old surface. You might want to look at
removing the paint first, then cleaning the surface really well with rubbing alcohol to make sure the adhesive backed paper will stick.
Lowe's has sheets of countertop for about $40 -- It looks like granite, solid whites, very inexpensive. I checked into this material to put a new top on my sewing machine table, in white, though.
Check Lowe's or Home Depot, as I don't think your liner will look good or last.
