Wood floor will not dry.?
Question:Has anyone ever heard of this? Last Saturday I stained our wood floor (oak) in our dining room. I have finished wood floors before and have the equipment to sand the floor down and do the job properly. For some reason, (and I know we have had rain and humidity) the floor just WILL NOT DRY. It has been 6 days now and it is STILL TACKY. What in the world is going on here? I've never ever seen it take this long to dry. Could the product be defective? Its minwax red oak stain.
Answers:
could have been put on too thick, not wiped off enough. it will stay tacky for a long long time. plus the humidity is not helping your situation.
Maybe the product was very old. I know with fingernail polish, the older it is the longer it take to dry. New polish dries quickly. Maybe check and see a manufacture date and call and see if that could be the case.
Just go rent a couple of those industrial drying fans (at ANY rent center and possibly your local rug retailer would know where to rent them.they are big but almost directly on the ground and can be aimed to dry the floor... put a few around outside the room and let em rip.it's probably the only way to dry the floor UNLESS you get back in that room, scrape all the stuff OFF and start over again.
My first instinct was that there was a conflict between oil and water-based stuff in the room. But that doesn't sound like the case. I'd get a dehumidfier in the room and force it to dry.
If the product is defective, you have a mess on your hands. But I'm inclined to believe it's just too much humidity in the house. Set the dehumidifier in the room with a 35% setting and leave it for 24 hours. If that doesn't work then I'm afraid you know the alternative.
