I want to refinish a light wood table and want to permanently embed a paper poster into the table-?

Question:I guess I will use polyurethane- Does anyone know for sure? This poster (9" x10") is a vintage wine crate label and I only get one shot not to ruin it. Thanks

Kathy P gave a great answer, but if the poster is valuable, why don't you scan or copy it on the computer, print it and use the copy for the table?

They make a decoupage medium for this type of thing. It has directions on the bottle, but you put it on the back of the item, then put it on the table. I don't remember if you need to let it dry first, but then you brush the decoupage medium on top of the item. You let this dry. Then you would put the polyurethane over it. More than one coat will be needed.

You could also put it on the table and just get a piece of glass made to the size of your table top, and sandwich the poster between the table and the glass.
