Building an Outdoor Banquette?

Question:I am planning on building an outdoor banquette type piece for my balcony and was wondering what the best type of wood would be to use on this project.

I would prefer something that would be light to pick up yet strong enough for people to sit on. Also something that won't warp easily or would require less frequent waterproofing treatments.

For what you describe, a material that is really hard to beat is redwood. Cedar has those qualities also, but is not as colorful. Both of these woods have natural repellentcy to insects and take waterproofing well. The only drawback of redwood is soft. It dents easily.
